The editable timeline directory - Help create a new way to visualise Wikipedia!
We have laid the groundwork for the timeline directory, now we need your help to turn it into the amazing resource we know it can be, join us and help create a new and engaging way to explore the ‘Sum of all Human knowledge’. We love Wikipedia and Wikidata, and think they are without doubt the very best places on the internet. The idea that the sum of the world’s knowledge should be freely available to everyone in the world is something we feel very strongly about, and our dream for Histropedia is to create another way to visualise that knowledge.

Presenting the Timeline Directory and Auto-Arrange
With these two major features we are taking a huge step towards the final vision of creating a new resource that will allow all of history to be explored, compared, and analysed in an engaging and interactive environment. There is still work to be done, but these features are a huge milestone for the project. We believe we are on the road to creating something truly amazing... we hope you agree!

New upcoming feature: Embedding Timelines
Great News! We've added embedding timelines to the next release, and it’s going to be FREE! Our goal with this feature is to provide a resource that will allow you to easily add an extra level of engagement to your content. Embedded timelines will display in a read-only mode and the layout has been altered so the timelines will display better in a smaller window. What timelines can I embed?

Priority Display: A step towards The Timeline for all of History
The next major feature for Histropedia is on its way, Priority Display will make a huge difference to the site and bring us a step closer to the timeline of everything. What does Priority Display do? Priority Display will limit the number of events you see on the screen at one time by only showing the most important events for the current time range. The idea is to offer a broad overview of history when a large period of time is displayed, allowing you to focus on the most important events.

The Amazing Power of Wikidata
We have recently switched Histropedia’s primary source for event dates from Wikipedia to Wikidata. We are still using Wikipedia as a date source and all the events remain linked to a Wikipedia article, but now whenever possible we are trying to use dates from Wikidata.
This is a major improvement for us because Wikidata stores dates in a very different way to Wikipedia, where there is no set format for date entry.

New Feature - Zooming in Further
We are excited to announce some major changes to the event editing system and an increase in the available zoom levels. The new editing options allow events to be pinned to the exact dates they occurred and the extra zoom levels let you view days and months on the timeline. These changes drastically increase the number of timelines we can display. Until this point events were only displayed accurate to the nearest year, meaning a great number of timelines were not displaying the level of detail required for them to be very useful.
