Happy New Year
It has been an amazing year for Histropedia, we have moved ever closer to achieving our vision of creating the world’s first interactive timeline of everything in history. With each new feature we deploy we place another stepping stone towards that end goal and excitement grows as we start to see the final vision take shape. We were also lucky enough this year to be given the opportunity of presenting Histropedia to the Wikimedia community during the annual Wikimania conference.

25 Years of the Simpsons
25 years ago today the first episode of the Simpsons aired on network television. 561 episodes and 26 seasons later the animated show is the longest running American sitcom. One of the most popular TV shows of all time, The Simpsons has influenced many adult-orientated animated sitcoms and has won dozens of awards including 31 Primetime Emmy Awards.

Tutorial: Create instant location based timelines using Wikidata queries
This tutorial will teach you how create an instant timeline based on a specific location and radius. Just like the “descendants of” timelines from the previous tutorial these location based timelines are made using Wikidata queries To create the query we are going to select a specific location using a geo-coordinate and set a radius in km. The query then will then populate the timeline with all the events that have their location set within the defined radius.

In order to allow the exploration of all of history, we need to create a suitable system of displaying large numbers of events without the timeline becoming overcrowded and unusable.

Heroic Age of Antarctic Exploration
The Heroic Age of Antarctic Exploration Started in the late 19th century and continued till the end of the first quarter of the 20th century.
The major objective of many of the expeditions was to be the first party to reach the Geographic South Pole. A feat accomplished by Roald Amundsen during his 1910 – 1912 expedition. Amundsen arrived just 5 weeks ahead of Robert Falcon Scott’s party of the Terra Nova expedition.
