John Winston Ono Lennon MBE (born John Winston Lennon; 9 October 1940 – 8 December 1980) was an English singer and songwriter who rose to worldwide fame as a co-founder of the band the Beatles, the most commercially successful band in the history of popular music. With fellow member Paul McCartney, he formed a celebrated songwriting partnership. Wikipedia

After the Beatles John Lennon started a successful solo career, selling over 14 million records as of 2012. As writer, co-writer or performer Lennon is responsible for over 25 number-one singles on the US Hot 100 chart. Posthumously inducted into the songwriters hall of fame and the Rock and Roll hall of fame twice (with the Beatles and as a solo artist).

Voted the 8th greatest Briton in 2008 by the BBC and the 5th greatest singer of all time by Rolling Stone magazine, John Lennon is one of the most important figures in popular music history.
