Priority Display: A step towards The Timeline for all of History
The next major feature for Histropedia is on its way, Priority Display will make a huge difference to the site and bring us a step closer to the timeline of everything. What does Priority Display do? Priority Display will limit the number of events you see on the screen at one time by only showing the most important events for the current time range. The idea is to offer a broad overview of history when a large period of time is displayed, allowing you to focus on the most important events.

Wikimania London 2014 - Not Long Now!
Here at Histropedia the whole team is really excited about the upcoming Wikimedia event this August. In an extreme stoke of good luck Wikimania is being held in London this year, and as a London based start-up that wouldn't exist if it wasn't for Wikipedia the timing for us could not be better. We are looking forward to meeting as many Wikipedians as we can over the course of the event, including the fringe events and hackathons scheduled for June and July.

Also on this day (April 7th) in 2001 the “2001 Mars Odyssey” was launched.
In honour of these two events we have created an amazing timeline of Mars exploration.

The Amazing Power of Wikidata
We have recently switched Histropedia’s primary source for event dates from Wikipedia to Wikidata. We are still using Wikipedia as a date source and all the events remain linked to a Wikipedia article, but now whenever possible we are trying to use dates from Wikidata.
This is a major improvement for us because Wikidata stores dates in a very different way to Wikipedia, where there is no set format for date entry.

Historical Fiction
We are continuing our recent literary theme today, this time looking at historical fiction.
One of our major goals here at Histropedia is to make history more accessible, we are attempting to do this through creating a new and engaging way to visualise history through interactive timelines.
Another great way to get people more interested in history is through historical fiction.
Good historical fiction transports the reader back in time, allowing them to get a real sense of what life was like during the period the work was set in.

New Feature - Zooming in Further
We are excited to announce some major changes to the event editing system and an increase in the available zoom levels. The new editing options allow events to be pinned to the exact dates they occurred and the extra zoom levels let you view days and months on the timeline. These changes drastically increase the number of timelines we can display. Until this point events were only displayed accurate to the nearest year, meaning a great number of timelines were not displaying the level of detail required for them to be very useful.
